d459e64463 Overlapping subs are a feature mainly present in subtitling 
software formats, such as JACOsub and SSA. This patch enables
them, by default, only with this formats; however the user can
force both enabling and disabling overlapping subtitles by the
mean of -overlapsub and -nooverlapsub options. The code itself
should avoid all the 'jumping subtitles' problems reported by the
users.

5ebe3d8c89 5l for me too :) BTW this should also be mentioned in the commands 
section of the man page, but lots of commands seem to be missing there
so I figure someone can add them all at once, eventually.

b768679cb9 Remove an obsolete link in the solaris section of the documentation 
(mplayer should work out of the box with the included mpdvdkit2 on
solaris).

Mention the patches that should be installed to fix one of the two bugs
that prevent the use of DVDs >4GB on solaris 8.

8acc653504 document minimum qscale correctly. someone should probably add a note

c8b0ddfe4e these patches let ,,oldstyle'' and freetype subtitle renderers live 
together happily. if an oldstyle subtitle (font.desc) is found, it will
be used. otherwise mplayer will choose subfont.ttf, if freetype was
detected during ./configure.
(also you can use -font /path/to/font.desc and -font /path/to/foobar.ttf too)

17c39c4e57 The following patch adds two new command line options: 
-sub-bkg-color n
-sub-bkg-alpha n
They control the color and alpha value used to initialize the subtitles and OSD BBOX.
With this you can have subtitles inside a traslucent rectangle.
This is useful when a movie already have "hardcoded" subtitles and you
want to overwrite them with rendered subtitles avoiding too much confusion.

you optimum quality at average bitrate. This patch adds presets to mencoder
for libmp3lame >= 3.92.

c69f138c48 Support the latest development code from XViD dev-api-3 CVS 
branch. Still compatible (at compile time) with the stable XViD code.

Adds :
- GMC, global motion compensation (gmc)
- quarter pixel motion estimation (qpel)
- B frames (max_bframes, bquant_ratio, bquant_offset)
- half-resolution U&V encoding (reduced)
- ?? (me_colour)

Based on a patch by Marco "elcabesa" Belli <elcabesa at inwind dot it>.


Also :
* renamed option "br" to "bitrate".
* renamed option "quality" to "me_quality" and defaults to 4 (fast and
  still not that bad).
* added option "4mv", was previously silently included in quality 4, 5
  and 6.

adc876c7c0 a little (my first!) patch to add some info about MPlayer on Irix 6.5 to 
documentation.html and some changes to the configure script + Makefile to
support optional different "install" location and change ranlib to ar when
Irix is detected.
