In commit f161d0f51 ("BUG/MINOR: pools/threads: don't ignore DEBUG_UAF
on double-word CAS capable archs") I moved some defines and accidently
messed up with lockfree pools. The problem is that the HA_HAVE_CAS_DW
macro is not defined anymore where the CONFIG_HAP_LOCKLESS_POOLS macro
is set, so this fix implicitly disabled lockfree pools.
This patch fixes this by moving the capabilities definition to config.h
(probably that we'd benefit from having an "arch.h" file to declare the
capabilities offered by the architecture). In a test on a 12-core machine,
we used to measure 19s spent in the pool lock for 1M requests without
this patch, and 0 with it so that's definitely a net saving.
No backport is required, this is only for 1.9.
Since commit cf975d4 ("MINOR: pools/threads: Implement lockless memory
pools."), we support lockless pools. However the parts dedicated to
detecting use-after-free are not present in this part, making DEBUG_UAF
useless in this situation.
The present patch sets a new define CONFIG_HAP_LOCKLESS_POOLS when such
a compatible architecture is detected, and when pool debugging is not
requested, then makes use of this everywhere in pools and buffers
functions. This way enabling DEBUG_UAF will automatically disable the
lockless version.
No backport is needed as this is purely 1.9-dev.
It's a pain to enable regparm because ebtree is built in its corner
and does not depend on the rest of the config. This causes no problem
except that if the regparm settings are not exactly similar, then we
can get inconsistent function interfaces and crashes.
One solution realized in this patch consists in externalizing all
compiler settings and changing CONFIG_XXX_REGPARM into CONFIG_REGPARM
so that we ensure that any sub-component uses the same setting. Since
ebtree used a value here and not a boolean, haproxy's config has been
set to use a number too. Both haproxy's core and ebtree currently use
the same copy of the compiler.h file. That way we don't have any issue
anymore when one setting changes somewhere.
GCC 3 and above do not inline large functions, which is a problem
with ebtree where most core functions are inlined.
This simple patch has both reduced code size and increased speed.
It should be back-ported to ebtree.
Gcc < 3 does not consider regparm declarations for function pointers.
This causes big trouble at least with pollers (and with any function
pointer after all). Disable CONFIG_HAP_USE_REGPARM for gcc < 3.
Some of the tv_* functions are called very often. Passing their
arguments as registers is quite faster. This can be disabled
by setting CONFIG_HAP_DISABLE_REGPARM.
