wm4 8fff125422 RPI support
This requires FFmpeg git master for accelerated hardware decoding.
Keep in mind that FFmpeg must be compiled with --enable-mmal. Libav
will also work.

Most things work. Screenshots don't work with accelerated/opaque
decoding (except using full window screenshot mode). Subtitles are
very slow - even simple but huge overlays can cause frame drops.

This always uses fullscreen mode. It uses dispmanx and mmal directly,
and there are no window managers or anything on this level.

vo_opengl also kind of works, but is pretty useless and slow. It can't
use opaque hardware decoding (copy back can be used by forcing the
option --vd=lavc:h264_mmal). Keep in mind that the dispmanx backend
is preferred over the X11 ones in case you're trying on X11; but X11
is even more useless on RPI.

This doesn't correctly reject extended h264 profiles and thus doesn't
fallback to software decoding. The hw supports only up to the high
profile, and will e.g. return garbage for Hi10P video.

This sets a precedent of enabling hw decoding by default, but only
if RPI support is compiled (which most hopefully it will be disabled
on desktop Linux platforms). While it's more or less required to use
hw decoding on the weak RPI, it causes more problems than it solves
on real platforms (Linux has the Intel GPU problem, OSX still has
some cases with broken decoding.) So I can live with this compromise
of having different defaults depending on the platform.

Raspberry Pi 2 is required. This wasn't tested on the original RPI,
though at least decoding itself seems to work (but full playback was
not tested).

wm4 6de3fe0b34 command: fix display-fps property (again)
This caused complaints because the fps was basically rounded on
microsecond boundaries in the vsync interval (it seemed convenient to
store only the vsync interval). So store the fps as float too, and let
the "display-fps" property return it directly.

wm4 9a7fc55607 command: display-fps is the display FPS as assumed by the VO
Requested change in behavior.

Note that we set the assumed "infinite" display_fps to 1e6, which
conveniently lets vo_get_vsync_interval() return a dummy value of 1,
which can be easily checked against, and still avoids doing math with
float INFs.

wm4 209f8225ed vo: update FPS only on state changes
I'm not comfortable with VOCTRL_GET_DISPLAY_FPS being called every
frame.

This requires the VO to set VO_EVENT_WIN_STATE if the FPS could have
changed. At least the X11 backend does this.

wm4 751830da32 vo: handle very long frame durations with smoothmotion enabled
With mf://, rather long frame durations are common. By default, one
frame takes 1 second. This causes the if branch changed with this commit
to always being taken, which in turn leads to the player not being woken
up correctly. (As a consequence, it "freezes" by waiting for events that
never come, and moving the mouse cursor over the window will wake it up
again and advance video.)

Obviously, the code should account for how long the video frame takes.
The code is probably still not fully correct, but for now this fixes the
issue at hand.

wm4 8657b8e1f3 vo: generic redraw support
Usually, a VO must react to VOCTRL_REDRAW_FRAME in order to redraw the
current screen correctly if video is paused (this is done to update
OSD). But if it's not supported, we can just draw the current image
again in the generic vo.c code.

Unfortunately, this turned out pretty useless, because the VOs which
would benefit from this need to redraw even if there is no image, in
order to draw a black screen in --idle --force-window mode. The way
redrawing is handled in the X11 common code and in vo_x11 and vo_xv is
in the way, and I'm not sure what exactly vo_wayland requires. Other VOs
have a non-trivial implementation of VOCTRL_REDRAW_FRAME, which
(probably) makes redrawing slightly more efficient, e.g. by skipping
texture upload. So for now, no VO uses this new functionality, but since
it's trivial, commit it anyway.

The vo_driver->untimed case is for forcibly disabling redraw for vo_lavc
and vo_image always.

wm4 2858232220 vo: simplify VOs by adding generic screenshot support
At the time screenshot support was added, images weren't refcounted yet,
so screenshots required specialized implementations in the VOs. But now
we can handle these things much simpler. Also see commit 5bb24980.

If there are VOs in the future which can't do this (e.g. they need to
write to the image passed to vo_driver->draw_image), this still could be
disabled on a per-VO basis etc., so we lose no potential performance
advantages.

wm4 a0a40eb287 vo: fix disabling/enabling smoothmotion at runtime
vo.c queried the VO at initialization whether it wants to be updated on
every display frame, or every video frame. If the smoothmotion option
was changed at runtime, the rendering mode in vo.c wasn't updated.

Just let vo_opengl set the mode directly. Abuse the existing
vo_set_flip_queue_offset() function for this.

Also add a comment suggesting the use of --display-fps to the manpage,
which doesn't have anything to do with the rest of this commit, but is
important to make smoothmotion run well.

wm4 a96c3ac90e vo: allow dropping additional frames with smoothmotion
The logic disabled framedropping if the frame was interpolated (i.e. the
render call is only done to interpolate between the previous frame, and
the frame before that).

It seems doing this wasn't even necessary, and broke framedrop in
smoothmotion mode. In fact, this code did nothing for display with video
fps below display fps. It did prevent the framedrop counter from going
up, though. So change it so that dropped interpolated frames are never
reported. (Doing so can give confusing results, such as dropping 1000s
of frames on slow operations like video start or changing filters.)

Stefano Pigozzi c29ab5a46b vo_opengl: add smoothmotion frame blending
SmoothMotion is a way to time and blend frames made popular by MadVR. It's
intended behaviour is to remove stuttering caused by mismatches between the
display refresh rate and the video fps, while preserving the video's original
artistic qualities (no soap opera effect). It's supposed to make 24fps video
playback on 60hz monitors as close as possible to a 24hz monitor.

Instead of drawing a frame once once it's pts has passed the vsync time, we
redraw at the display refresh rate, and if we detect the vsync is between two
frames we interpolated them (depending on their position relative to the vsync).
We actually interpolate as few frames as possible to avoid a blur effect as
much as possible. For example, if we were to play back a 1fps video on a 60hz
monitor, we would blend at most on 1 vsync for each frame (while the other 59
vsyncs would be rendered as is).

Frame interpolation is always done before scaling and in linear light when
possible (an ICC profile is used, or :srgb is used).

wm4 a1ed13869c video: remove vfcap.h
And remove all uses of the VFCAP_CSP_SUPPORTED* constants. This is
supposed to reduce conversions if many filters are used (with many
incompatible pixel formats), and also for preferring the VO's natively
supported pixel formats (as opposed to conversion).

This is worthless by now. Not only do the main VOs not use software
conversion, but also the way vf_lavfi and libavfilter work mostly break
the way the old MPlayer mechanism worked. Other important filters like
vf_vapoursynth do not support "proper" format negotation either.

Part of this was already removed with the vf_scale cleanup from today.

While I'm touching every single VO, also fix the query_format argument
(it's not a FourCC anymore).

wm4 234d632920 video: fix waiting for last frame/format reconfig
We still need to send the VO a duration in these cases. Disabling
framedrop has logically absolutely nothing to do with these cases; it
was overlooked in commit 918b06c4.

So we always send the frame duration (or a guess for it), and check
whether framedropping is actually enabled in the VO code. (It would
be cleaner to send framedrop as a flag, but I don't care about that
right now.)

wm4 918b06c42c player: respect --untimed on last frame
The last video frame is another case that has a separate code path,
although it's pretty similar to the one in commit 73e5aa87. Fix this
in a different way, which also takes care of the last frame case,
although without context the code becomes slightly more tricky.

As further cleanup, move the decision about framedropping itself to
the same place, so the check in vo.c becomes much simpler. The check
for the vo->driver->encode flag, which is remvoed completely, was
redundant too.

Fixes #1480.

wm4 2e531aaf14 vo: don't synchronize when seeking
Don't use vo_control() for sending VOCTRL_RESET when starting a seek.
This means vo_seek_reset() won't wait until the VO actually processed
VOCTRL_RESET. It happens asynchronously instead.

The impact of this change should be minimal, unless the VO is somehow
too busy (like blocking on vsync).

wm4 a7dddbacc6 video: batch query_format calls
There are currently 568 pixel formats (actually fewer, but the namespace
is this big), and for each format elaborate synchronization was done to
call it synchronously on the VO. This is completely unnecessary, and we
can do with just a single call.

wm4 88982f2855 vo_opengl: better probe handling
Involve detection of software renderers in the probing properly. Other
VOs could handle probing also more gracefully, and e.g. produce less
noise if an API is unavailable. (Although other than the OpenGL VOs,
only vo_wayland will.)

Now the "sw" suboption for vo_opengl[_old] is strictly speaking not
needed anymore. Doing "--vo=opengl" disables the probing logic, and will
always force it, if possible.

Includes some simplifications as well.

wm4 56eb2b71b8 vo: fix some nonsense
Commit d38bc531 is incorrect: the 50ms queue-ahead value and the flip
queue offset have different functions. The latter is about calling
flip_page in advance, so the change attempted to show video frames 50ms
in advance on all VOs.

The change was for vo_opengl_cb, but that can be handled differently.

wm4 fb855b8659 client API: expose OpenGL renderer
This adds API to libmpv that lets host applications use the mpv opengl
renderer. This is a more flexible (and possibly more portable) option to
foreign window embedding (via --wid).

This assumes that methods like context sharing and multithreaded OpenGL
rendering are infeasible, and that a way is needed to integrate it with
an application that uses a single thread to render everything.

Add an example that does this with QtQuick/qml. The example is
relatively lazy, but still shows how relatively simple the integration
is. The FBO indirection could probably be avoided, but would require
more work (and would probably lead to worse QtQuick integration, because
it would have to ignore transformations like rotation).

Because this makes mpv directly use the host application's OpenGL
context, there is no platform specific code involved in mpv, except
for hw decoding interop.

main.qml is derived from some Qt example.

The following things are still missing:
- a way to do better video timing
- expose GL renderer options, allow changing them at runtime
- support for color equalizer controls
- support for screenshots

wm4 4e2574f025 command: make window-scale property observable
Add a generic mechanism to the VO to relay "extra" events from VO to
player. Use it to notify the core of window resizes, which in turn will
be used to mark all affected properties ("window-scale" in this case) as
changed.

(I refrained from hacking this as internal command into input_ctx, or to
poll the state change, etc. - but in the end, maybe it would be best to
actually pass the client API context directly to the places where events
can happen.)

wm4 9ba6641879 Set thread name for debugging
Especially with other components (libavcodec, OSX stuff), the thread
list can get quite populated. Setting the thread name helps when
debugging.

Since this is not portable, we check the OS variants in waf configure.
old-configure just gets a special-case for glibc, since doing a full
check here would probably be a waste of effort.

wm4 a74a324b98 video: return responsibility of video redraw back to playloop
When the VO was moved it its own thread, responsibility for redrawing
was given to the VO thread itself. So if there was a condition that
indicated that redrawing was required, like expose events or certain
VOCTRLs, the VO thread was redrawing itself.

This worked fine, but there are some corner cases where this works
rather badly. E.g. if I fullscreen the player and hit panscan controls
with mpv's default autorepeat rate, playback stops. This happens because
the VO redraws itself after every panscan change command. Running each
(repeated) command takes so long due to redrawing and (involuntary)
waiting on vsync, that it never leaves the input processing loop while
the key is held down. I suspect that in my case, redrawing in fullscreen
mode just gets slow enough that it takes 2 vsyncs instead of 1 on
average, and the processing time gets larger than the autorepeat delay.

Fix this by taking redraw control from the VO, and instead let the
playloop issue a "real" redraw command to the VO if needed. This
basically reverts redraw handling to what it was before moving the VO to
a thread.

wm4 a4241f9de6 video: fix redrawing when pausing after framedrop
When pausing after a frame was just dropped, we're logically at the
dropped frame, and thus should redraw the dropped frame. This was
implemented, but didn't work after unpausing for the second time,
because of a minor logic bug.

wm4 68b7217d41 vo_vdpau: better integration with the generic framedrop code
vo_vdpau uses its own framedrop code, mostly for historic reasons. It
has some tricky heuristics, of which I'm not sure how they work, or if
they have any effect at all, but in any case, I want to keep this code
for now. One day it might get fully ported to the vo.c framedrop code,
or just removed.

But improve its interaction with the user-visible framedrop controls.
Make --framedrop actually enable and disable the vo_vdpau framedrop
code, and increment the number of dropped frames correctly.

The code path for other VOs should be equivalent. The vo_vdpau behavior
should, except for the improvements mentioned above, be mostly
equivalent as well. One minor change is that frames "shown" during
preemption are always count as dropped.

Remove the statement from the manpage that vo_vdpau is the default; this
hasn't been the case for a while.

wm4 6ef40cb910 video: wake up core as soon as possible
There's no reason to let the core wait until the frame is done
displaying. In practice, the core normally didn't need this additional
wakeup, and the VO was quick enough to fetch the new frame, before the
core even attempted to queue a new frame. But it wasn't entirely clean,
and the correct wakeup handling might matter in some cases.

This was kept in the codebase because it is slightly faster than --vo=opengl
on really old Intel cards (from the GMA era). Time to kill it, and let it rest.

wm4 68ff8a0484 Move compat/ and bstr/ directory contents somewhere else
bstr.c doesn't really deserve its own directory, and compat had just
a few files, most of which may as well be in osdep. There isn't really
any justification for these extra directories, so get rid of them.

The compat/libav.h was empty - just delete it. We changed our approach
to API compatibility, and will likely not need it anymore.

wm4 1cedb323ad video: avoid unnecessary frame dropping
If duration<0, it means the duration is unknown. Disable framedropping,
because end_time makes no sense in this case.

Also, strictly never drop the first frame.

This fixes weird behavior with the cover-art case (for the 100th time).

wm4 513779d3b8 video: make vo_opengl the default over vo_vdpau
Nvidia's vdpau implementation is pretty good, but other factors make it
much less attractive for use as default VO. For example, Mesa often has
low quality drivers (mess up things with the presentation queue and the
vdpau API time source). Intel ruins things completely, and we're likely
to run on emulation via OpenGL. Compositing has unknown effects (to me
anyway), but appears to reduce the vdpau advantages.

One important reason to prefer vo_vdpau was that it could do proper
framedropping. Framedropping got fixed for the other VOs, so this reason
is going away.

wm4 5b64f5ad35 video: take refresh rate changes into account
This works only on X11, and only if the refresh rate changes due to the
window being moved to another screen (detected by us). It doesn't
include system screen reconfiguration yet.

This calls VOCTRL_GET_DISPLAY_FPS on every frame, which makes me uneasy.
It means extra thread communication with the win32 and Cocoa backends.
On the other hand, a frame doesn't happen _that_ often, and the
communication should still be pretty cheap and fast, so it's probably
ok.

Also needs some extra fuzz for vo_vdpau.c, because that does everything
differently.

wm4 543ba6c114 video: add VO framedropping mode
This mostly uses the same idea as with vo_vdpau.c, but much simplified.

On X11, it tries to get the display framerate with XF86VM, and limits
the frequency of new video frames against it. Note that this is an old
extension, and is confirmed not to work correctly with multi-monitor
setups. But we're using it because it was already around (it is also
used by vo_vdpau).

This attempts to predict the next vsync event by using the time of the
last frame and the display FPS. Even if that goes completely wrong,
the results are still relatively good.

On other systems, or if the X11 code doesn't return a display FPS, a
framerate of 1000 is assumed. This is infinite for all practical
purposes, and means that only frames which are definitely too late are
dropped. This probably has worse results, but is still useful.

"--framedrop=yes" is basically replaced with "--framedrop=decoder". The
old framedropping mode is kept around, and should perhaps be improved.
Dropping on the decoder level is still useful if decoding itself is too
slow.

wm4 5ed7bc6321 video: fix and simplify video format changes and last frame display
The previous commit broke these things, and fixing them is separate in
this commit in order to reduce the volume of changes.

Move the image queue from the VO to the playback core. The image queue
is a remnant of the old way how vdpau was implemented, and increasingly
became more and more an artifact. In the end, it did only one thing:
computing the duration of the current frame. This was done by taking the
PTS difference between the current and the future frame. We keep this,
but by moving it out of the VO, we don't have to special-case format
changes anymore. This simplifies the code a lot.

Since we need the queue to compute the duration only, a queue size
larger than 2 makes no sense, and we can hardcode that.

Also change how the last frame is handled. The last frame is a bit of a
problem, because video timing works by showing one frame after another,
which makes it a special case. Make the VO provide a function to notify
us when the frame is done, instead. The frame duration is used for that.

This is not perfect. For example, changing playback speed during the
last frame doesn't update the end time. Pausing will not stop the clock
that times the last frame. But I don't think this matters for such a
corner case.

wm4 df58e82237 video: move display and timing to a separate thread
The VO is run inside its own thread. It also does most of video timing.
The playloop hands the image data and a realtime timestamp to the VO,
and the VO does the rest.

In particular, this allows the playloop to do other things, instead of
blocking for video redraw. But if anything accesses the VO during video
timing, it will block.

This also fixes vo_sdl.c event handling; but that is only a side-effect,
since reimplementing the broken way would require more effort.

Also drop --softsleep. In theory, this option helps if the kernel's
sleeping mechanism is too inaccurate for video timing. In practice, I
haven't ever encountered a situation where it helps, and it just burns
CPU cycles. On the other hand it's probably actively harmful, because
it prevents the libavcodec decoder threads from doing real work.

Side note:

Originally, I intended that multiple frames can be queued to the VO. But
this is not done, due to problems with OSD and other certain features.
OSD in particular is simply designed in a way that it can be neither
timed nor copied, so you do have to render it into the video frame
before you can draw the next frame. (Subtitles have no such restriction.
sd_lavc was even updated to fix this.) It seems the right solution to
queuing multiple VO frames is rendering on VO-backed framebuffers, like
vo_vdpau.c does. This requires VO driver support, and is out of scope
of this commit.

As consequence, the VO has a queue size of 1. The existing video queue
is just needed to compute frame duration, and will be moved out in the
next commit.

wm4 fa34b4920a vdpau: don't upload video images in advance
With software decoding, images were uploaded to vdpau surfaces as they
were queued to the VO. This makes it slightly more complicated
(especially later on), and has no advantages - so stop doing it.

The only reason why this was done explicitly was due to attempts to keep
the code equivalent (instead of risking performance regressions). The
original code did this naturally for certain reasons, but now that we
can measure that it has no advantages and just requires extra code, we
can just drop it.

wm4 89391e7c94 vo: different hack for VOs which need to mangle mouse input
Follow up on commit 760548da. Mouse handling is a bit confusing, because
there are at least 3 coordinate systems associated with it, and it
should be cleaned up. But that is hard, so just apply a hack which gets
the currently-annoying issue (VO backends needing access to the VO) out
of the way.

wm4 72aac9ae8a video: introduce failure path for image allocations
Until now, failure to allocate image data resulted in a crash (i.e.
abort() was called). This was intentional, because it's pretty silly to
degrade playback, and in almost all situations, the OOM will probably
kill you anyway. (And then there's the standard Linux overcommit
behavior, which also will kill you at some point.)

But I changed my opinion, so here we go. This change does not affect
_all_ memory allocations, just image data. Now in most failure cases,
the output will just be skipped. For video filters, this coincidentally
means that failure is treated as EOF (because the playback core assumes
EOF if nothing comes out of the video filter chain). In other
situations, output might be in some way degraded, like skipping frames,
not scaling OSD, and such.

wm4 716285782d video/out: change aspects of OSD handling
Let the VOs draw the OSD on their own, instead of making OSD drawing a
separate VO driver call. Further, let it be the VOs responsibility to
request subtitles with the correct PTS. We also basically allow the VO
to request OSD/subtitles at any time.

OSX changes untested.

wm4 e1d846263a video: fix another cover art corner case
Playing a video and then an audio file with cover art kept displaying
the last frame of the video. This was because the hasframe flag was set,

wm4 f3362e22eb player: remove VO from seeking code path
Until recently, the VO was an unavoidable part of the seeking code path.
This was because vdpau deinterlacing could double the framerate, and hr-
seek and framestepping etc. all had to "see" the additional frames. But
we've removed the frame doubling from the vdpau VO and moved it into a
video filter (vf_vdpaupp), and there's no reason left why the VO should
participate in seeking.

Instead of queuing frames to the VO during seek and skipping them
afterwards, drop the frames early.

This actually might make seeking with vo_vdpau and software decoding
faster, although I haven't measured it.

wm4 feb1f8f18f video/out: separate out code to compute window size
Currently, vo_reconfig() calculates the requested window size and sets
the vo->dwidth/dheight fields _if_ VOCTRL_UPDATE_SCREENINFO is
implemented by the VO or the windowing backend. The window size can be
different from the display size if e.g. the --geometry option is used.
It will also set the vo->dx/dy fields and read vo->xinerama_x/y.

It turned out that this is very backwards and actually requires the
windowing backends to workaround these things. There's also
MPOpts.screenwidth/screenheight, which used to map to actual options,
but is now used only to communicate the screen size to the vo.c code
calculating the window size and position.

Change this by making the window geometry calculations available as
separate functions. This commit doesn't change any VO code yet, and just
emulates the old way using the new functions. VO code will remove its
usage of VOCTRL_UPDATE_SCREENINFO and use the new functions directly.

wm4 4331617bce vo: don't crash when changing panscan before first configuration
When the VO was not initialized with vo_reconfig(), or if the last
vo_reconfig() failed, changing panscan would cause a crash due to
vo_get_src_dst_rects() dereferencing vo->params (NULL if not
configured).

Just do nothing if that happens, as there is no video that could be
displayed anyway.

wm4 6775487a46 video: move video frame queue from vo_vdpau.c to vo.c
Remove the special casing of vo_vdpau vs. other VOs. Replace the
complicated interaction between vo.c and vo_vdpau.c with a simple queue
in vo.c. VOs other than vdpau are handled by setting the length of the
queue to 1 (this is essentially what waiting_mpi was).

Note that vo_vdpau.c seems to have buffered only 1 or 2 frames into the
future, while the remaining 3 or 4 frames were past frames. So the new
code buffers 2 frames (vo_vdpau.c requests this queue length by setting
vo->max_video_queue to 2). It should probably be investigated why
vo_vdpau.c kept so many past frames.

The field vo->redrawing is removed. I'm not really sure what that would
be needed for; it seems pointless.

Future directions include making the interface between playloop and VO
simpler, as well as making rendering a frame a single operation, as
opposed to the weird 3-step sequence of rendering, drawing OSD, and
flipping.

wm4 38d29c487c vo: merge get rid of vo.aspdat field
Rename vo_get_src_dst_rects() to mp_get_src_dst_rects() and make it
independent from the VO (it takes a comical amount of parameters now to
pass all required state). Add a convenience wrapper with the name
vo_get_src_dst_rects() to vo.c. Replace all aspdat and vo usages with
immediate parameters.

Functionally, nothing should change, except that the window size is
clamped to a minimum of size 1 much earlier, and some log messages
change the prefix (don't bother with vo.vo_log stuff).

For some reason, this made all VO backends both set the screen
resolution in opts->screenwidth/height, and call
aspect_save_screenres(). Remove the latter. Move the code to calculate
the PAR-corrected window size from aspect.c to vo.c, and make it so that
the monitor PAR is recalculated when it makes sense.

wm4 ed71606e65 input: rework how input sources are added
Until now, there were two functions to add input sources (stuff like
stdin input, slave mode, lirc, joystick). Unify them to a single
function (mp_input_add_fd()), and make sure the associated callbacks
always have a context parameter.

Change the lirc and joystick code such that they take store their state
in a context struct (probably worthless), and use the new mp_msg
replacements (the point of this refactoring).

Additionally, get rid of the ugly USE_FD0_CMD_SELECT etc. ifdeffery in
the terminal handling code.

wm4 37319ab644 video: change --video-zoom behavior
Use the scaled video size (i.e. as shown on the window) as reference for
zoom. This is the easiest way to fix different width/height scale
factors  as they happen when zooming video with a pixel aspect ratio
other than 1:1.

Also fix the unscaled mode, so that it 1. doesn't scale even with
--video-zoom, and 2. doesn't scale by small amounts when the video is
cropped by making the window smaller than the video.

There are some use cases for this. For example, you can use it to set
defaults of automatically inserted filters (like af_lavrresample). It's
also useful if you have a non-trivial VO configuration, and want to use
--vo to quickly change between the drivers without repeating the whole
configuration in the --vo argument.

The configure followed 5 different convetions of defines because the next guy
always wanted to introduce a new better way to uniform it[1]. For an
hypothetic feature 'hurr' you could have had:

  * #define HAVE_HURR 1   / #undef HAVE_DURR
  * #define HAVE_HURR     / #undef HAVE_DURR
  * #define CONFIG_HURR 1 / #undef CONFIG_DURR
  * #define HAVE_HURR 1   / #define HAVE_DURR 0
  * #define CONFIG_HURR 1 / #define CONFIG_DURR 0

All is now uniform and uses:
  * #define HAVE_HURR 1
  * #define HAVE_DURR 0

We like definining to 0 as opposed to `undef` bcause it can help spot typos
and is very helpful when doing big reorganizations in the code.

Instead, handle it purely by the option parser. Originally, I wanted to
handle --vo=opengl-hq and --vo=direct3d_shaders with this (by making
them aliases to the real VOs with a different preset), but since --vo
=opengl-hq=help prints the wrong values (as consequence of the
simplification), I'm not doing that, and instead use something
different.

wm4 f01744ac4e core: add --force-window
This commit adds the --force-window option, which will cause mpv always
to create a window when started. This can be useful when pretending that
mpv is a GUI application (which it isn't, but users pretend anyway), and
playing audio files would run mpv in the background without giving a
window to control it.

This doesn't actually create the window immediately: it only does so
only after initializing playback and when it is clear that there won't
be any actual video. This could be a problem when starting slow or
completely stuck network streams (mpv would remain frozen in the
background), or if video initialization somehow is stuck forever in
an in-between state (like when the decoder doesn't output a video
frame, but doesn't return an error either). Well, we can pretend only
so much that mpv is a GUI application.

wm4 ed9295c250 video/out: always support redrawing VO window at any point
Before, a VO could easily refuse to respond to VOCTRL_REDRAW_FRAME,
which means the VO wouldn't redraw OSD and window contents, and the
player would appear frozen to the user. This was a bit stupid, and makes
dealing with some corner cases much harder (think of --keep-open, which
was hard to implement, because the VO gets into this state if there are
no new video frames after a seek reset).

Change this, and require VOs to always react to VOCTRL_REDRAW_FRAME.
There are two aspects of this: First, behavior after a (successful)
vo_reconfig() call, but before any video frame has been displayed.
Second, behavior after a vo_seek_reset().

For the first issue, we define that sending VOCTRL_REDRAW_FRAME after
vo_reconfig() should clear the window with black. This requires minor
changes to some VOs. In particular vaapi makes this horribly
complicated, because OSD rendering is bound to a video surface. We
create a black dummy surface for this purpose.

The second issue is much simpler and works already with most VOs: they
simply redraw whatever has been uploaded previously. The exception is
vdpau, which has a complicated mechanism to track and filter video
frames. The state associated with this mechanism is completely cleared
with vo_seek_reset(), so implementing this to work as expected is not
trivial. For now, we just clear the window with black.

wm4 ede652774e input: translate mouse position to OSD space early
Until now, mouse positions were just passed to the core as-is, even if
the mouse coordinates didn't map to any useful coordinate space, like
OSD coordinates. Lua scripting (used by the OSC, the only current user
of mouse input) had to translate mouse coordinates manually to OSD space
using mp_get_osd_mouse_pos(). This actually didn't work correctly in
cases mouse coordinates didn't map to OSD (like vo_xv): the mouse
coordinates the OSC got were correct, but input.c was still expecting
"real" mosue coordinates for mouse areas.

Fix this by converting to OSD coordinates before passing the mouse
position to the core.

Alexander Preisinger 58e826e6f2 wayland: shm based software rendering
A wayland output based on shared memory. This video output is useful for x11
free systems, because the current libGL in mesa provides GLX symbols. It is also
useful for embedded systems where the wayland backend for EGL is not
implemented like the raspberry pi.

At the moment only rgb formats are supported, because there is still no
compositor which supports planar formats like yuv420p. The most used compositor
at the moment, weston, supports only BGR0, BGRA and BGR16 (565).

The BGR16 format is the fastest to convert and render without any noticeable
differences to the BGR32 formats. For this reason the current (very basic)
auto-detection code will prefer the BGR16 format. Also the weston source code
indicates that the preferred format is BGR16 (RGB565).

There are 2 options:
    * default-format (yes|no)  Which uses the BGR32 format
    * alpha (yes|no)    For outputting images and videos with transparencies

wm4 47e92b2f88 video: handle video output levels with mp_image_params
Until now, video output levels (obscure feature, like using TV screens
that require RGB output in limited range, similar to YUY) still required
handling of VOCTRL_SET_YUV_COLORSPACE. Simplify this, and use the new
mp_image_params code. This gets rid of some code. VOCTRL_SET_YUV_COLORSPACE
is not needed at all anymore in VOs that use the reconfig callback. The
result of VOCTRL_GET_YUV_COLORSPACE is now used only used for the
colormatrix related properties (basically, for display on OSD).  For
other VOs, VOCTRL_SET_YUV_COLORSPACE will be sent only once after config
instead of twice.

wm4 c3a0721d09 video/out: don't require VOs to handle screenshot aspect specially
This affects VOs which just reuse the mp_image from draw_image() to
return screenshots. The aspect of these images is never different
from the aspect the screenshots should be, so there's no reason to
adjust the aspect in these cases.

Other VOs still need it in order to restore the original image
attributes.

This requires some changes to the video filter code to make sure that
the aspect in the passed mp_images is consistent.

The changes in mplayer.c and vd_lavc.c are (probably) not strictly
needed for this commit, but contribute to consistency.

wm4 216e8320b0 video: make it possible to scale/pan the video by arbitrary amounts
Add --video-align-x/y, --video-pan-x/y, --video-scale options and
properties. See the additions to the manpage for description and
semantics.

These transformations are intentionally done on top of panscan. Unlike
the (now removed) --panscanrange option, this doesn't affect the default
panscan behavior. (Although panscan itself becomes kind of useless if
the new options are used.)

wm4 2827295703 video: add vaapi decode and output support
This is based on the MPlayer VA API patches. To be exact it's based on
a very stripped down version of commit f1ad459a263f8537f6c from
git://gitorious.org/vaapi/mplayer.git.

This doesn't contain useless things like benchmarking hacks and the
demo code for GLX interop. Also, unlike in the original patch, decoding
and video output are split into separate source files (the separation
between decoding and display also makes pixel format hacks unnecessary).

On the other hand, some features not present in the original patch were
added, like screenshot support.

VA API is rather bad for actual video output. Dealing with older libva
versions or the completely broken vdpau backend doesn't help. OSD is
low quality and should be rather slow. In some cases, only either OSD
or subtitles can be shown at the same time (because OSD is drawn first,
OSD is prefered).

Also, libva can't decide whether it accepts straight or premultiplied
alpha for OSD sub-pictures: the vdpau backend seems to assume
premultiplied, while a native vaapi driver uses straight. So I picked
straight alpha. It doesn't matter much, because the blending code for
straight alpha I added to img_convert.c is probably buggy, and ASS
subtitles might be blended incorrectly.

Really good video output with VA API would probably use OpenGL and the
GL interop features, but at this point you might just use vo_opengl.
(Patches for making HW decoding with vo_opengl have a chance of being
accepted.)

Despite these issues, decoding seems to work ok. I still got tearing
on the Intel system I tested (Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M). It was also
tested with the vdpau vaapi wrapper on a nvidia system; however this
was rather broken. (Fortunately, there is no reason to use mpv's VAAPI
support over native VDPAU.)

wm4 e978511d63 vo: unref waiting image before destroying VO driver
This is in theory more correct with respect to hardware decoding. With
hardware decoding, the VOs play the role of the video surface allocator,
and nothing is allowed to reference surfaces past the VO lifetime. But
in theory waiting_mpi could be a reference to a HW video surface, so it
should be relased before the VO is uninitialized.

wm4 18b6c01d92 video: redo how colorspaces are handled
Instead of handling colorspaces with VFCTRLs/VOCTRLs, make them part of
the normal video format negotiation. The colorspace is passed down like
other video params with config/reconfig calls.

Forcing colorspaces (via the --colormatrix options and properties) is
handled differently too: if it's changed, completely reinit the video
chain. This is slower and requires a precise seek to the same position
to perform an update, but it's simpler and less bug-prone. Considering
switching the colorspace at runtime by user-interaction is a rather
obscure feature, this is a good change.

The colorspace VFCTRLs and VOCTRLs are still kept. The VOs rely on it,
and would have to be changed to get rid of them. We'll do that later,
and convert them incrementally instead of in one go.

Note that controlling the output range now always works on VO level.
Basically, this means you can't get vf_scale to output full-range YUV
for whatever reason. If that is really wanted, it should be a vf_scale
option. the previous behavior didn't make too much sense anyway.

This commit fixes a few bugs (such as playing RGB video and converting
that to YUV with vf_scale - a recent commit broke this and forced the
VO to display YUV as RGB if possible), and might introduce some new
ones.

wm4 70a8079c8e core: remove mp_fifo indirection
For some reason mp_fifo specifically handled double clicks, and other
than that was a pointless wrapper around input.c functionality.

Move the double click handling into input.c, and get rid of mp_fifo. Add
some compatibility wrappers, because so much VO code uses these
functions. Where struct mp_fifo is still used it's just a casted
struct input_ctx.

wm4 5b38a522f1 input: handle mouse movement differently
Before this commit, mouse movement events emitted a special command
("set_mouse_pos"), which was specially handled in command.c. This was
once special-cased to the dvdnav and menu code, and did nothing after
libmenu and dvdnav were removed.

Change it so that mouse movement triggers a pseudo-key ("MOUSE_MOVE"),
which then can be bound to an arbitrary command. The mouse position is
now managed in input.c. A command which actually needs the mouse
position can use either mp_input_get_mouse_pos() or mp_get_osd_mouse_pos()
to query it. The former returns raw window-space coordinates, while the
latter returns coordinates transformed to OSD- space. (Both are the same
for most VOs, except vo_xv and vo_x11, which can't render OSD in
window-space. These require extra code for mapping mouse position.)

As of this commit, there is still nothing that uses mouse movement, so
MOUSE_MOVE is mapped to "ignore" to silence warnings when moving the
mouse (much like MOUSE_BTN0).

Extend the concept of input sections. Allow multiple sections to be
active at once, and organize them as stack. Bindings from the top of
the stack are preferred to lower ones.

Each section has a mouse input section associated, inside which mouse
events are associated with the bindings. If the mouse pointer is
outside of a section's mouse area, mouse events will be dispatched to
an input section lower on the stack of active sections. This is intended
for scripting, which is to be added later. Two scripts could occupy
different areas of the screen without conflicting with each other. (If
it turns out that this mechanism is useless, we'll just remove it
again.)

wm4 3382a6f6e4 video: add a new method to configure filters and VOs
The filter chain and the video ouputs have config() functions. They are
strictly limited to transfering the video size and format. Other
parameters (like color levels) have to be transferred separately.

Improve upon this by introducing a separate set of reconfig() functions,
which use mp_image_params to carry format parameters. This struct
contains all image format related parameters from config(), plus
additional parameters such as colorspace.

Change vf_rotate to use it, as well as vo_opengl. vf_rotate is just
an example/test case, but vo_opengl will need it later.

The intention is also to get rid of VOCTRL_SET_YUV_COLORSPACE. This
information is now handed to the VOs via reconfig(). The getter,
VOCTRL_GET_YUV_COLORSPACE, will still be needed though.

wm4 0e2fb5d8e8 vo: redo video display rectangle calculations
This code calculates the source/display video rectangle for scaling with
most VOs. It's responsible for clipping the display rectangle against
the screen and adjusting the source rectangle accordingly.

Until now, it assumed that the video was centered on the screen. Change
this so that any rectangle is possible. Basically, the clipping is
extended to two sides (e.g. left and right), instead of handling both at
the same time.

The rounding behavior slightly changes. It seems to be slightly better
than before. On the other hand, the video is not strictly centered
anymore (due to different rounding on either side). When using panscan
controls, the video can "jitter" by 1 or 2 pixels around the center as
the panscan value is changed.

wm4 51254a678c vo: rip out VO timer wakeup mechanism again
This was used by some VOs to do timing of cursor autohiding, but we
recently moved that out of the VOs. Even though this mechanism might
be a good idea and could be needed again in future (but for what?),
it's unused now. So better just get rid of it.

wm4 bf10a4fdfa video/out: introduce vo_control for gl_common based VOs
Instead of having separate callbacks for each backend-handled feature
(like MPGLContext.fullscreen, MPGLContext.border, etc.), pass the
VOCTRL responsible for this directly to the backend. This allows
removing a bunch of callbacks, that currently must be set even for
optional/lesser features (like VOCTRL_BORDER).

This requires changes to all VOs using gl_common, as well as all
backends that support gl_common.

Also introduce VOCTRL_CHECK_EVENTS. vo.check_events is now optional.
VO backends can use VOCTRL_CHECK_EVENTS instead to implementing
check_events. This has the advantage that the event handling code in
VOs doesn't have to be duplicated if vo_control() is used.

wm4 f86deec58b video: apply --no-keepaspect even on fullscreen
If that's what the user asked for, there's no reason to introduce
special cases to ignore it on fullscreen.

The old behavior is perhaps accidentally due to the fact that aspect
calculations used to be disabled in windowed mode, rather than a
deliberate decision.

wm4 ca893689fe x11_common: fix --cursor-autohide when paused
When paused, --cursor-autohide worked with a precision of 500ms, which
is the main loop's default sleep time when paused. Cursor hiding is
polled in x11_common, and the main loop never called the X11 code at
the right time. Fix this by allowing the VO to set a time when it
should be called next.

wm4 d511ef79a0 core: simplify OSD capability handling, remove VFCAP_OSD
VFCAP_OSD was used to determine at runtime whether the VO supports OSD
rendering. This was mostly unused. vo_direct3d had an option to disable
OSD (was supposed to allow to force auto-insertion of vf_ass, but we
removed that anyway). vo_opengl_old could disable OSD rendering when a
very old OpenGL version was detected, and had an option to explicitly
disable it as well.

Remove VFCAP_OSD from everything (and some associated logic). Now the
vo_driver.draw_osd callback can be set to NULL to indicate missing OSD
support (important so that vo_null etc. don't single-step on OSD
redraw), and if OSD support depends on runtime support, the VO's
draw_osd should just do nothing if OSD is not available.

Also, do not access vo->want_redraw directly. Change the want_redraw
reset logic for this purpose, too. (Probably unneeded, vo_flip_page
resets it already.)

wm4 70346d3be6 video/out: remove video mode switching (--vm)
This allowed making the player switch the monitor video mode when
creating the video window. This was a questionable feature, and with
today's LCD screens certainly not useful anymore. Switching to a random
video mode (going by video width/height) doesn't sound too useful
either.

I'm not sure about the win32 implementation, but the X part had several
bugs. Even in mplayer-svn (where x11_common.c hasn't been receiving any
larger changes for a long time), this code is buggy and doesn't do the
right thing anyway. (And what the hell _did_ it do when using multiple
physical monitors?)

If you really want this, write a shell script that calls xrandr before
and after calling mpv.

vo_sdl still can do mode switching, because SDL has native support for
it, and using it is trivial. Add a new sub-option for this.

wm4 af54ff826b Remove --rootwin option and rootwin property
You can just use --wid=0 if you really want this.

This only worked/works for X11, and even then it might interact badly
with most desktop environments. All the option did was setting --wid to
0, and the property did nothing.

Basically, move vo_opengl above the other VOs (except vo_vdpau). This
changes preferences on Windows and Linux.

Move vo_opengl_old further down and make it the last fallback (before
vo_x11).

vo_caca is crap (no pun intended), and should never be autoprobed.

wm4 704c0cb2db video: remove -x/-y/-xy options
-x/-y were rather useless and obscure. The only use I can see is
forcing a specific aspect ratio without having to calculate the aspect
ratio float value (although --aspect takes values of the form w:h).
This can be also done with --geometry and --no-keepaspect. There was
also a comment that -x/-y is useful for -vm, although I don't see how
this is useful as it still messes up aspect ratio.

-xy is mostly obsolete. It does two things: a) set the window width to
a pixel value, b) scale the window size by a factor. a) is already done
by --autofit (--autofit=num does exactly the same thing as --xy=num, if
num >= 8). b) is not all that useful, so we just drop that
functionality.
